The Entrepreneurial Design Fellowship (EDF) Cohort 3 – Agriculture Track continues to demonstrate the power of youth-led innovation in creating meaningful and lasting community transformation. Through hands-on community action in Gasabo District, Gatsata Sector, EDF fellows proved that agriculture is not only a source of food, but also a pathway to dignity, income generation, and self-reliance.
Kitchen gardens built by EDF 2025 Agriculture Track fellows are transforming households into hubs of nutrition, resilience, and opportunity—proving that youth-led action can grow lasting change.
Going beyond the establishment of kitchen gardens, the fellows actively engaged community members in practical training on small-scale agriculture, focusing on how home-based farming can be transformed into sustainable income-generating activities. Participants were equipped with skills in crop management, productivity, and basic agribusiness thinking—ensuring that the impact extends well beyond the initial intervention.
This initiative strongly reflected the spirit of grassroots co-creation, where young leaders and community members worked side by side to design solutions that respond to real, lived needs. By listening first and acting together, the fellows fostered ownership, resilience, and long-term sustainability within the community.
The impact of this support is best reflected in the voices of the beneficiaries themselves. Mukantabana Gertrude, one of the community members supported through the Agriculture Track, shared her appreciation, saying:
“I thank these young people for their love and compassion. This kitchen garden they have built will help us to get good food.”
Her testimony highlights the human-centered impact of the EDF approach—where innovation is driven by empathy, action, and partnership.
Through initiatives like this, EDF Cohort 3 Agriculture Track continues to empower young people as change makers while strengthening household food security and livelihoods. The program stands as a strong example of how youth, when equipped with the right tools and opportunities, can lead sustainable solutions that transform communities from the ground up.
